There is someone here at Loyola, Theresa Gross-Diaz, who is working on violence
as a mnemonic device. You may want to look at her recent book, _From Iectio
divina to the lecture room: The Psalms Commentary of Gilbert of Poitiers_ (Brill
Publishers, 1995). She has another book forthcoming on the role of violence in
medieval education (especially 12th C Paris) also based on Gilbert of Poitiers.
A few weeks ago, she gave a fascinating lecture to our Medieval Studies
Committee on violence and memory in the classroom. You can reach her via the
Loyola History Dept. web site at <http://www.luc.edu/depts/history/>. Related
may be Barbara Rosenwein's most recent work on anger in the middle ages:
_Anger's Past: The Social Uses of an Emotion in the Middle Ages_ (Cornell UP,
1998). Hope this is helpful.
