To all of you theological experts:
A seminary friend of mine asked me the other day about Aquinas' notion of
the three-fold use of the law. I suppose he is talking about the moral,
ceremonial and civil use of the Mosaic law which is found in Reformed
theology of the 16th and 17th centuries but apparently also in Aquinas. I
am certainly no expert on Aquinas. Anyway, he was wondering about the
provenance of this doctrine in Aquinas (Augustine, Lombard, Aristotle,
etc). Any ideas or recommended readings?
thanks in advance
