Agreed. A sample is Fairford (Gloucestershire) where the paintings
reappeared in outline as the oil (?) in the stone affected the
whitewash.
As for the RC churches - where did the baroque ones get their
ideas from? It seems to be the same idea taken (several stages)
further.
