Before Joachim, there was (inter alios!) Rupert of Deutz, who wrote
one of the few commentaries on the Apocalypse. I think that M.L.
Arduini may have discussed Rupert and apocalyptic in her book (in
Italian, I believe) on Rupert's theology of history. For the most
up-to-date bibliography on Rupert, see van Enghen's biography, now
alas about 15 years old but the most accessible work in English.
If the original questioner's student is comfortable working in French,
then the best place to start to find recent work on the topic is the
annual bibliographies in _Revue d'histoire ecclesiastique_, which are
classified by subject.
