ASLIB BIOSCIENCES GROUP ANNUAL CONFERENCE
Biodiversity - Information Diversity
Rothamsted Experimental Station, Harpenden, Herts.
Thursday 21st May 1998
The ASLIB Biosciences Group is please to announce that this year's Annual
Conference will take place on 21st May at Rothamsted Experimental Station,
Harpenden, Herts with a theme of Biodiversity - Information Diversity. There
are millions of different species and within each species there are many unique
individual organisms living in complex ecosystems. As well as being a source
of wonder, it is also vitally important. Loss of species and loss of diversity
may be an indication of major environmental change, or it may be the loss of
an, as yet, unexploited source of medical or food products. For the librarian
and information specialist, this means more information to deal with and
sources to locate.
The 1998 ASLIB Biosciences Group conference will introduce you to the
diversity of biodiversity information with speakers focussing on environmental
and conservation/genetic diversity sources as well as species diversity data
and applications such as ethobotany and development of drugs and computer based
courseware.
The cost will be stlg50 (members), stlg60 (non members) and will include lunch and
refreshments.
Places are likely to be in heavy demand, so if you would like to attend, please
book early to avoid disappointment. Please return the enclosed booking form no
later than 12th May to Nigel Robinson, ABG Meetings Secretary, c/o BIOSIS UK, 54
Micklegate, York YO1 1LF (Tel: 01904 642816; Fax: 01904 612793; Email:
