Several years ago, Edinburgh University Library moved all its
original pre-1922 parliamentary papers from open access to more or
less closed access. This was due to theft of early 19th plans, maps,
illustrations etc. issued with reports. The new arrangement is not
exactly welcomed by readers, and is a strain on staff resources.
There is a likelihood of further reorganization in the library
being possible this summer, and I would value information from
libraries which have original pre-1922 parliamentary papers in their
stock about their own cut-off dates for closed access/open access
relating to this material. Many thanks in anticipation.
Murray Simpson, Special Collections Librarian, Edinburgh University
Library.
