Have you tried 'Ask a Librarian', EARL's national reference enquiry service? It's at
http://www.earl.org.uk/ask/index.html
The UK's public libraries are waiting to help you!

Subject: Harvard referencing
I have been trying in vain to find something out about the origins of
the Harvard style of referencing. For instance, I would like to know
when it was invented and by whom (doubtless there is a clue in the name
but further info has so far eluded me).
Any information/help very much appreciated.
Many thanks
David Fisher
