CoastNET Project Officer - Centre for Coastal Conservation & Education
£14,941 - £22,797 per annum
The School of Conservation Sciences is seeking a project officer to manage
and develop the contract to provide the secretariat for CoastNET, the
United Kingdom's national coastal network, which is based in the Centre
under the direction of Dr Carolyn Heeps. With an appropriate first
degree, your detailed knowledge of coastal conservation and writing and
publication experience is essential. A post graduate qualification,
experience of field and practical work, knowledge of web design,
electronic networking, database management and fundraising are desirable.
This is a 1-year fixed term appointment in the first instance.

Job Purpose (One or two sentences outlining the main reasons why the job exists)
To manage and develop the contract to provide the secretariat for CoastNET, the United Kingdom's national coastal network, which is based in the Centre under the direction of Dr Carolyn Heeps. The post will involve a wide range of responsibilities, including the general management of the project, the provision of a communication service to members, providing a network and advisory service, and developing CPD and other short course and conference provision. The post offers great scope for the use of personal initiative and the person appointed will be able to play a key role in the future of coastal conservation in the United Kingdom
Main Responsibilities (Please list in order of importance. Use active verbs such as negotiating, writing, filing, etc.)
Under the general direction of Director of the Centre for Coastal Conservation & Education the postholder will:
1. take general management responsibility for the CoastNET contract held by the Centre, including co-ordination and implementation of project work and research, servicing of CoastNET Board Meetings, the organisation of national and international meetings, conferences and training events
2. write and edit reports and produce the regular CoastNET Bulletin
3. take responsibility for the development of the CoastNET WWW site
4. play a leading role in the securing of funding for CoastNET operations
5. provide an advisory and information service on coastal matters for field staff and decision-makers
6. maintain links with other organisations and individuals concerned with coastal conservation and management
7. assist with the development of CoastNET as a network of members and an independent Trust
8. attend meetings and conferences as required
9. undertake any other appropriate duties from time to time as directed by the Director of the Centre
