MAKING RESEARCH COUNT: Enhancing Policy and Practice in Education for
Sustainable Development

The 1998 Annual Conference of the Council for Environmental Education (CEE)
will bring together researchers, policy makers and practitioners to examine
the role of research programmes in sustainable development education policy
and practice.
The conference will be addressed by Sir Geoffrey Holland, Chair of the
Government's Sustainable Development Education Panel, and will be jointly
chaired by Roy Atkinson, Chair of CEE, and
Dr Seamus Hegarty, Director of the National Foundation for Educational
Research (NFER). Also speaking will be Professor Jim Skea, ESRC (Global
Environmental Change Programme) and Director-designate, Policy Studies
Institute; Professor Joy Palmer, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences,
University of Durham; Anne Chick, Senior Research Fellow, the Surrey
Institute of Art and Design and Peter Capener, Director of the Centre for
Sustainable Energy.
This year's conference is a partnership between CEE and NFER. NFER
currently co-ordinates the FERN network for environmental education
research, funded by the ESRC (Economic and Social Research Council) Global
Environmental Change Programme.
The conference will be held on 19 November 1998 at Reading Town Hall.
