ESRC GLOBAL ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGE PROGRAMME
PROGRAMME DIRECTORSHIP
The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) wishes to appoint an
individual or team to lead, manage and co-ordinate its UKP15 million
Global Environmental Change Programme during its final year. Particular
emphasis will be placed on identifying and drawing together the key
scientific and policy-relevant findings emerging from the Programme's
research and communicating these to relevant audiences. This opportunity
has arisen following the appointment of the current Programme Director,
Professor Jim Skea (Sussex University), to the post of Director of the
Policy Studies Institute. The one-year award will be for a maximum of
UKP300,000 starting 1 April 1999 (or earlier) and will be made through a
UK higher education institution or other institution eligible for ESRC
funding. To be considered for appointment, applicants do not need to hold
a current academic position.
The successful application will demonstrate an ability to provide
leadership for a network of multi-disciplinary research teams spread
across the UK; to represent the Programme at a senior level; and, to
communicate the Programme's findings to both the academic community and
potential users of the research in government, non-governmental
organisations the media and business. The individual / team will be
expected to continue and develop the Programme's current communication
activities including: a book series; newsletter (GEC-O); a briefings and
special briefings series; WWW site and email list; programme of workshops,
seminars and conferences; and co-ordinating responses to consultation
exercises.

outline costings by the closing date of 18 November 1998. Interviews will
be held in mid-December / early January.
