Dear members of env-ed-research:
I have received the following message from a colleague from Korea,
who will be visiting the UK in January. He would like to meet people
interested in environmental education, especially in relation to his
project for UNDP in the forests of Korea. I would very much
recommend him, and would note that he speaks excellent English. If
you would be interested in meeting him, please contact him directly
at the e-mail address he provides.
With best regards,
Martin Price

UNDP Programme on the Environmental Education and Forestry in Korea and NE
Asia
The UNDP Project for the Development of Environmental Education Programmes
on Trees and Forests (ROK/98/005) aims to enhance capacity-building of
educators and natural resources managers in environmental education on
natural environment, in particular trees and forests. The project also aims
to raise public awareness on the issues of deforestation and sustainable
forestry. The project involves developing a set of environmental
educational programmes on trees and forests including guided and self-
guiding programmes plus teaching and learning materials about trees and
forests. The project will provide a channel for communication among
schools, forest managers and the public for the better understanding of
issues in sustainable forestry and environmental management at large.
The project will also train a number of educators and resource managers
from domestic and abroad. There will be several domestic and an
international workshops on environmental education. In the international
workshop the issues of deforestation in the northeastern Asian countries,
in particular the case of Korean peninsula will be addressed. The project
and related projects in the area of forestry will facilitate the
development of sustainable forestry and environmental conservation in the
region. Possible areas of follow-up project will include public involvement
for forest conservation and international cooperation for sustainable
forestry in the northeastern Asian countries. The case of Korean forestry
education may be a model of education for sustainable forestry in the
region.
