I am not convinced of this. The DEC manuals define its action pretty well
and they have implemented it identically (as far as the user is concerned)
on OpenVMS and Digital Unix, other vendors have it working equally well on
MS-DOS, Solaris, IRIX, to my knowledge. If it can be done on operating
sytems as diverse as these, it can surely be defined in an O/S-neutral
way. I'm not asking for anything difficult, just the ability to output a
record without the terminator (LF or CR,LF, or CR or whatever) usual in a
text file. I really don't see the problem.
