It is easy to miss irony in email communications. May I suggest
that, in the well-known tradition of Usenet 'smilies', we adopt a
textual marker -- let us call it an ironicon -- which may be used
to indicate passages which are meant ironically. One format for this
could be: ><, indicating something that goes two ways.
