John,
I`ve had a look at the Intro. to the revised POEMS. It took me a
while to get to the antipastoral site but I`m glad I did: for what
it`s worth, I think the piece is judiciously put and usefully
orients the new and the not-so-new reader inside the book as a whole
collection and inside its different stages. The only parts which
betray it as a two-headed textual chimera: confusion over whether
Prynne, in his own special-case marginality, is waiting out a time in
the wilderness which he deplores, as he deplores the social forces
keeping him there, or he is deliberately blocking all available
channels to a wider readership to show some sort of solidarity with
the small presses? Both cases seem to be advanced at different
points.
