Summary
The work involves the records of two central church bodies: The General
Synod at Church House and The Church Commissioners at Millbank. The thrust
of the job will be modern Records Management, research into Electronic
Records Management, and outreach to current departmental staff. However, a
certain amount of archival work will be involved, as will liaison with the
public.
A qualification in archives administration and/or records management is
required. Experience would be an advantage but consideration will be given
to applicants who have recently completed a training course. Computer /
database experience will be an added recommendation. The post will be based
at the Record Centre in Bermondsey.
Position in the organisation
The postholder will report to the Records Manager, and to the Director of
the Centre.
Main Purpose of Job
To work as a Records Management team with the Records Manager; to
devise and implement Records Management programmes for the Church
Commissioners at Millbank; continuing from the survey of that organisation
undertaken in 1997-98.
To maintain and develop RM programmes already in place for the
General Synod at Church House
To help develop RM strategies for the proposed new Archbishop's
Council
To help maintain a current records and archives service for the
central organisations
To deputise for and assist the Records Manager in his work
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Help to devise and implement Records Management programmes and
strategies, following on from the recent RM survey of the Church
Commissioners
Help to develop and implement methods of managing and retrieving
current paper information, via the Idealist database and other methods
Make regular contact visits with all Commissioners staff; set up
liaison channels with appointed records officers within all departments;
raise the profile of the Record Centre and raise records consciousness
Assist in the development of an EDM / ERM project within the Records
Centre, with a view to implementing a strategy for the central church
organisations
Deputise for the Records Manager in providing a current records
service for Church House, including retrieval of materials for departments
Deal with the public on the telephone and in the searchroom; process
orders for publications
Assist with some archival work resulting from the RM programmes,
such as retrospective thinning; listing; boxing and bagging; shelving
