CASPER is a DOS based software package for teaching classical true score
statistics, including factor analysis, item analysis, multiple group factor
analysis, image analysis, regression analysis, partial and whole
correlations, reliability measures, etc. It was written as a teaching tool
and has been used widely. I have received requests for CASPER from over
1200 teachers, from 54 countries. CASPER was designed to teach Nunnally's
book Psychometric Theory. Students enter real data or simulate construct
domains, using the easy to use simulator. The simulations can be learned
by following default options that walk the person through the classical
true score model. No manual is needed and none is provided. Casper is not
on a website (but if anyone has space for it I would appreciate your
putting it on your website.) You can obtain copies of CASPER by e-mailing
me directly. CASPER is free and may be distributed to others freely but it
should not be sold. Students receive their own copies on a single disk for
use on their private computers. I usually ask my tests and measurements or
psychometrics students to conduct a series of simulations to test basic
principles of psychometrics. The exercises are in line with the
constructivist approach. In fact, CASPER stands for the Construct Analysis
and Simulation System for Education through Research.
