Statistics Seminar -- Michaelmas Term 1998
26th November 1998
2:00pm Mr Martin Ridout (Horticulture Research International)
"Models of ranking errors in ranked set sampling".
Ranked set sampling is an alternative to random sampling that is useful
when it is expensive to measure individual sampling units
but relatively easy to rank small groups of sampling units, for example
visually. This talk will review the basic method and
illustrate its application to estimating spray deposits on the leaves of
apple trees. Various models of errors in the ranking process
will then be described and compared.
Further details of the seminar programme and abstracts of
forthcoming talks are available from:

All are very welcome. The Statistics Seminars will be held in
Mathematics Lecture Theatre in the Institute of Mathematics and
Statistics, Cornwallis Building.
