Dear Liz
The latest DfEE booklet "Financial Support for Mature Students in
Higher Education in 1998/99" has a small section under Loans as
follows: "Loans are not available to students who are aged 50 or
over at the start of their course. However, the Government is
looking at the possibility from 1999/2000 onwards of making loans
available to students in their early fifties who, for example, wish
to retrain following redundancy."
That doesn't help this year's intake but it might give some incentive
to help students in this category from Access Funds in the hope that
funding from loans may be available for the rest of the course.
