Post menopausal oestradiol reference ranges would tend to support this. You do not say how long after ovarian removal the oestradiol was measured nor whether it was reproducible on subsequent occasions. A further test would be to measure gonadotrophins. This would act as a “bioassay” for the oestradiol. If GTs were in the postmenopausal range then this would be evidence that what was being measured as oestradiol is not biologically active.
