I am having a long-running discussion with one of our Paediatricians who
wishes to use the blood gas analyser to determine metabolic status in
diabetic subjects by using VENOUS blood. I won't let him because I tell him
the pCO2 results are misleading and thus affect the calculations. Am I being
unreasonable in insisting on either an arterial or capillary sample?
