Our Chiron 865 Cooximetry generated the following results in a 11 year
old boy admitted with first episode of acute haemolysis after taking
lots of broad beans, presumably having G6PD deficiency:
Total Hb: 7.1 g/dL
O2Hb : 82.%
COHb : 6.6%
MetHb : 7.6%
DeoxyHb : 3.1%
The patient has taken some unidentified drugs from his GP for 'upper
respiratory tract infection'. He denied of smoking but is a passive
smoker (mother is a heavy smoker). He is not very dyspnoeic clinically.
I find it difficult to explain the COHb. Could this be some kind of Hb
variant that produces this picture?
Thank you for all inputs.
