News from UK NEQAS - Reports of Assay Interferences
===================================================
List members should note that a new service has been introduced on
the UK NEQAS web site at http://www.ukneqas.org.uk/ifn.html, which is
designed to collate reports of interferences observed in assay
systems, mainly in the clinical chemistry domain, but also in other
branches of laboratory medicine.
This service has been instituted in response to requests following a
Focus 98 Workshop on the topic of interferences in immunoassay.
To use this service, email [log in to unmask] with 'Assay
Interferences' as the subject and the interference report in the body
of the message. The web page gives details of the provisional topic
area classification system we are using; list members' comments
on this would be welcome.
Note that this service should NOT be used for complaints about the
poor performance of assay systems, which should always be made to the
manufacturer concerned in the first instance, and to MDA (see
www.medical-devices.gov.uk/aic_rept.htm) if appropriate. Use the UK
NEQAS Assay Interferences page for reports of anomalous results
obtained for individual samples (or types of sample) which suggest
that substances other than the analyte being measured are causing
problems.
Where these interferences can be investigated by special UK NEQAS
surveys, the results of these will be posted on the linked web page.
List members are invited to visit this site and make contributions
and comments on how it should be used. Collations of reports will
be placed on the ACB and UK NEQAS mailbase lists.
Comments on the style and content of the UK NEQAS web site are
always welcome. Please send these to me personally at
