Can anyone tell me if I'm on the right path with this MRCPath calculation
question ?
A patient requiring parentral nutrition was judged to require approximately
2000 Kcals (8360 KJ) energy per 24 hours. Approx one third of the energy was
to be supplied by a 20% fat emulsion and the remainder by a 50% dextrose
solution.
Calculate the approx volumes of each that would be required
My calculation is:-
Need to supply 1/3 x 2000 k as fat energy = 667 kCals
Fat supplies 9 kcal/g
Therefore need 74 g of fat
No mls = 74 x 100/20 = 370 mls
Need to supply 1334 kcal by carb
Carb supplies 3.75 kcal/g
Therefore need 355g of carbohydrate
No mls = 355 x 100/50 = 712 mls 50% dextrose
Is this right ?
