TRACY: Thanks for the response. It's interesting to see your reply to my
post when I also received a post from another person about a lecture on
the "extension of the idea of author cinema in a digital communication
context," to be held at the Worldwide Video Festival in Amsterdam. If
you want, I can send this information to you via private e-mail. It's so
nice to hear that auteurism is stretching beyond its previous "realm" of
classical Hollywood cinema to include pop music videos. Actually, I'm
not a film student, and my thesis is merely an undergrad thesis, so I
can't get too technical or specialized about the subject. Still, I'd be
interested to hear about those references that you've been using in the
course of your study, though I hope they won't be too difficult for me
to find over here and even if they may not directly relate to my thesis.
So what exactly is the reason for your interest in auteurism in pop
music video? Are you a scholar or a filmmaker?
JAMES: Thank you as well for your brief explication of some of
Corrigan's ideas. I hope to get a copy of that book here as it might be
useful in order to show that auteurism is not "passe." I've checked with
Amazon, and I see it's been around for a few years so I hope that makes
it easily available. But I would appreciate more details. In particular,
I'm curious as to how exactly Corrigan avoids economic determinism in
his discussion of the auteur as a marketing device? Hope you can tell me
more. Thanks!
Andrew
