What worries me a bit (and again I hope that someone will be able to
point me in the correct direction) is that none of the discussions
about Deleuze (and, to a lesser extent, Guattari) I have been party to
over the years at various conferences and such-like, have ever involved
a discussion of the use of metaphor in his/their work. How do
"crystal", "sheet" and "peak" work metaphorically? It is almost as if
these terms (molar, molecular etc.) are being asked (by critics) to
work non-metaphorically - and if so, how can this be possible?
I ask this because I feel that D & G's work argues quite strongly
against the idea of metaphor and more towards a Warholesque idea of
surface without depth (language without meaning? Film without
content?). But I find myself using metaphors again.
