I agree with these sentiments wholeheartedly. It's the first of John's
books to _really_ excite me, I like so much of his output, but this I
feel is a major collection. John moves from strength to strength.
God forbid we should need extensive literary training to appreciate
works though, Douglas! The older I get the more I suspect that theory
robs one of pleasure (even though I still read some crit). I guess I'd
rather read literature than what someone thinks about literature . . .
