In addition to Flanagan's works, Barbara Newman's seminal _Sister of
Wisdom_, along with her other works on Hildegard (and translation of the
_Symphonia_) are important studies. Garland will be publishing in 1998
_Hildegard of Bingen: A Casebook_, a series of essays on diverse aspects
of Hildegard studies; watch for it! There are a number of translations of
the _Scivias_ (see Paulist Press's Classics of Western Spirituality
Series), in addition to other Hildegard works. Letters are available in
translation. Even a fictional journal has been written, based on
Hildegard's life and work. For Hildegard's music, Sequentia has made
several fine recordings, and there is also a recording from about 15 years
ago called "Feather on the Breath of God," by (I believe) Gothic Voices,
that's quite good. Are we all ready to celebrate the 900th anniversary of
Hildegard's birth in 1998?
