Dear Scott
I can now announce that my book on the history of the attribution of painted
icons to the Evangelist will probably be issued in the first months of 1998.
Its title is 'Il pennello dell'evangelista. Storia delle immagini sacre
attribuite a san Luca' and is a volume in the GISEM series, edited in Pisa,
Italy.
A rapid survey of my thesis is however exposed in this former essay:
M. Bacci, 'Appunti sulla nascita, moltiplicazione e decadenza delle immagini
di culto attribuite a san Luca pittore', in "Bollettino d'arte", ser. VI,
LXXIX, 1994, pp. 73-92.
I hope this may be of help.
Yours sincerely,
Michele Bacci
