The Apostle Paul points out that we should be giving thanks all the
time. I have no wish to interfere in any such process, but (in my RC
innocence) would like to know what these Dutch Calvinists were giving
thanks for? And how did they arrive at their date?
I suppose Calvinists aren't medieval-, but they are -religion: are
we talking about harvest, still popular (if a month before) in
Germany (though wine and beer festivals do not sound quite
like Calvin's line), or does an echo of the medieval marking of the
Presentation of Mary in the Temple (21 Nov) lurk behind it?
I don't know: does someone else?
