Rob: Do you know the book *Encyclopedia of Saints* by Clemens Jockle
(umlaut on the "o"). It was published in 1995 by Alpine Fine Arts
Collection (UK) Ltd, 43 Manchester St, London W1M 5PE. The author gives
for each saint a list of "representations in art," with a brief
description. For example, under Jerome there is, among many other
references, this:
"as learned man in the study (Cologne, library of the Archbishops'
seminary, Hs 1a, illumination, 10th century"
"healing of the lion (Bologna, St Mary dei Servi, fresco, by V. da Bologna,
circa 1350)"
The latter may refer to a full page woodcut in the book showing Jerome
extracting the thorn from the lion's paw, in a study in which three books
are shown with the first words of Genesis in Hebrew, Greek and Latin.
