Owen Chadwick's History of Christianity mentions a Basil, bishop of
Caesarea (d.379) and his rules for monks. It says that his rules were
loosely followed by his successors in the East and that they referred to
themselves as Basilians, in contrast to Western monks who followed the
rules of St. Benedict. Not much else here--I'm at home, this is the
only book I can find with a reference.
