I believe that there are examples of people moving from a more lax to a
stricter order, e.g., to the Cistercians from a Benedictine house. A
more interesting problem is moving from a stricter to a less strict
order. That was what caught my eye about Pfister when I ran across some
of his writings in a Munich MS. The canon law texts governing these
matters, including permissions, can be found in the title De regularibus
et transeuntibus ad religionem in the several collections of decretals.
My eye just fell on X 3.31.10, Sane, which says that a canon regular can
become a member of a monastery if it is stricter than his previous
house. See also c. 18, Licet.
