To add to Tom Izbicki's reply:
Philaretas is the Greek-born Dominican Tommaso Maria Mamachi
(1713-1792). This work is his defence of Palafox against charges of
Jansenism made by Jesuits opposed to his beatification. There's an entry
on Mamachi in DThC 9/2:1807-08, with further bibliography.
