Some of the recent scholarship on Jesus, books by Spong & others, are
intended to recover Jesus in his Jewish background. J. P. Meier's A
Marginal Jew is an example.
Artistic representation of Jesus, however, often seems designed to appeal
to local sentiment at the expense of any effort to produce a figure who
might be thought semitic.
