Dear Beth,
I do not have the reference in front of me but Simon Gaunt has written an
article on St Euphrosyne and old French hagiography . The
refrence to his article can be be found in Ad Putter's article
'Transvestite Knights' in *Becoming Male in the Middle Ages*, ed. B.
Wheeler and J. Cohen (NY: Garland, 1996). I am sure that you will find
other bibliographical information in Ad Putter's article quite useful,
(the article itself is also quite interesting!)
In regard to references to cross-dressing saints perhaps the best thing is
to page through Butler's *Lives of the Saints*. The groundbreaking
article on cross-dressing in the Middle Ages is by Vern Bollough,
'Transvestism in the Middle Ages', in *Sexual Practices and the Medieval
Church* (Buffalo: Prometheus Books, 1982), pp. 43-54.
Good luck!
