Dear Brenda,
Many thanks for your newsy report on the conference, together with
information on more conferences to come. From your description I wish, more
than ever, that I could have been there.
It is clear that 1998-2016 is going to be the Innocentian era for
medievalists. One theme which regularly came up when I taught a course on
the Fourth Lateran Council--and which might be covered in a future
conference--could be called: All the Pope's People: the extraordinary cast
of characters in the ecclesiastical world of Innocent's day, and how they
interacted with one another, and with Innocent himself.
But no matter how many conferences, there will still be plenty of topics
worth studying.
(With every good wish for your present projects.)
