Gragras (accents on the a's) is a collection of laws of early Iceland, though
they date mostly from the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. Part of the
collection has been translated into English. See: Andrew Dennis, Peter Foote,
and Richard Perkins: Laws of Early Iceland: Gragas (Winnipeg, 1980). You might
also refer your friend to the work of William Ian Miller, who has published a
number of articles (perhaps also a book?) on legal issues in medieval Iceland.
