I wonder whether you may have

I'm afraid I can't give you any detailed information about Philip's meeting
at St. Denis in July 1223 (just before his death that is!). According to
John W. Baldwin (The Government of Philip Augustus, 1986, pp. 338-9) P.
gathered the French prelates to discuss both the Albigensian Crusade and
the crusade to the Holy Land. To know more I guess one would have to follow
up Baldwin's refrences. In any case, both popes Innocent III and Honorius
III tried to involve P. in the Albigensian crusade right from its start in
1208, albeit with no success. Up to 1223 P. seemed to have other business
he deemed more important and it is a point of speculation whether he really
intended to tackle the problem of the Albigensian heresy in 1223. However,
with Prince Louis's crusades in 1215 and 1219 the Albigensian crusade was
very present in the Capetian royal family, and it is not inconceivable that
Philip wanted to do in 1223 what Louis VIII finally came to do in 1226?!
I'll keep you posted if I find out more about the meetin of July 1223.
Cheers
