Dear all,
I am currently preparing a section of my thesis which considers the
portrayal of priest's genitals in the tradition of Old French comic
narratives. As I feel that it would be interesting to contextualise some of
the connotations which seem implicit in these texts, I would appreciate any
pointers to any (recent) work which might contain an extensive treatment of
legal/theological etc. attitudes towards the male organs, and erections in
particular, with appropriate source references. I have made a start by
piecing together snippets of Brundage's "Law, sex..." and Baldwin's
"Language of sex", and will look through Salisbury's research guide to
medieval sexuality today, but was wondering whether there has been anything
more recent which deals with the topic more exclusively?
With many thanks in advance,
DARON
