In the Kunstgewerbemuseum in Berlin, there is a beautiful domed
head reliquary of St Gregory Nazianzus made of copper gilt,
champleve enamel and carved walrus ivory, dating from c.1175 and
probably made in Cologne. It has been linked to the patronage of
Henry the Lion, Duke of Saxony and Bavaria, and it is thought that he
must have brought St Gregory's skull back with him from
Constantinople.
