Dear Meta2,
We are working on a Harvest based indexer for mathematical preprints as
part of a project ``Information services for mathematics'' in Germany
(conducted by ZIB Berlin).
The indexer will serve for (Metadata based) retrieval and
documentation of current mathematical research.
Till now we used a preliminary Warwick Container for HTML coded MetaData
(transformed to SOIF by Harvest).
As field names for DC became sufficiently stable we are now moving to a DC
description.
Our first version for the mapping is enclosed as appendix (with
links added to stuff mentioned). .
For the HTML implementation of qualifiers we use the version:
``Qualifiers should head CONTENT in ( )''.
There are two items we are not happy with:
1. There doesn't seem to exist a ``notes'' type for the SUBJECT field.
(Notes could for instance contain information about the revision history
of the paper, hints on subsequent work by the authors or others.)
2. Preprint is currently not listed as a qualifier for TYPE
(Preprint:= Pre-publication of a research article)
In the first case we in the first attempt use the proposed x- convention
(x-notes).
In the second case we use the proposed scheme ``freetext''.
Both look a little awkward.
We would be happy, if DC would allow ``Preprint'' as TYPE.
Our MetaData are author provided and are produced using a form interface
(MMM2.0)
We have directed Harvest to use MetaData in a menue driven way.
Currently programming is under way to make Harvest read scheme and
type from CONTENT, so that the indexer really can use the DC mapping of
the Math.DMV MetaData - Scheme. (A test version one can look up).
Best regards
Judith Pluemer & Roland Schwaenzl
