Over the past month the Mailbase webmaster, Steve Watt, has been
developing and enhancing the webpages for all the open lists.
If you are the owner of an open list you will have probably noticed some
of the following changes:
o List Information
A new page has been added, which has information on the membership
numbers, list traffic and list options setting. This information is
dynamically generated, so if the list owner makes a change, the webpage
will change immediately.
o Members and Owners
Links to members and owners are only included if the list owner has
decided that these should be publicly available. And if the owner has
restricted access to membership details, the webpage will say so.
o Moderators
Link to moderators page only exists if the list is moderated.
o Join page
- Changed to "joining and leaving" page
- Instructions on joining the list will be different for lists with
restricted access, where people will be told to contact the list owner.
- Information on how to leave the list are also included.
o Files added by list owner
- There is a webpage listing all the files, their description, size,
last modified date and source.
- The total file space used is also included.
- This page is dynamically generated, so if a list owner adds a file it
will be listed immediately.
o Welcome.html
If the owner adds a file called welcome.html there will be a link from
the list homepage directly to this file.
This allows owners to have a set of webpages and also a list of files.
o Search link
The text of this link reflects whether or not there are archives to
search.
o Changes to searching
- The file and message archives results are separated and the message
archive results are ordered by month.
- Messages matching the search terms have the surplus headers removed,
are converted to webpages and any URLs are made into live links
o Superlist and sublist
Information on any related superlists or sublists is included on the
list's homepage
Steve has worked very hard to finish these developments before Friday,
15th August when he left the Mailbase team for a new job. We would like to
thank him for all the work he has put in.
