Dear Owners,
May we remind you that summer is when members move on from Universities or
take extended breaks, and sites often update their systems during the
quiet period.
This can cause mail delivery problems for listowners and some effective
housekeeping of your list will be necessary! Some suggestions to keep your
list running smoothly are:
o Don't leave bad addresses sitting" on your list - remove them or follow
them up with the relevant postmasters or the helpline.
o Send a message to your list reminding list members about the suspend
mail command. A sample message is included below.
If you are the only listowner of your list, and intend to take an extended
break, you should find someone maintain your list whilst you are away.
Remember that if you run a moderated list you will have to make sure at
least one moderator is available to pass on messages while you are away.
The Mailbase staff are at hand should you need advice or support:
Email: [log in to unmask]
Tel: (0191) 222 8080
Fax: (0191) 222 8580
For those who are taking a summer break, have a great time, and for
those of you who aren't, don't work too hard!

Going on Holiday?
=========================================
If you leave your work for an extended period over summer, and receive a
lot of email messages, your mailbox may fill up, and your email could stop
working.
So before you go away you should temporarily SUSPEND messages from your
Mailbase lists by sending a message to [log in to unmask] with the
command:
suspend mail all
stop
Suspending list membership is particularly important if you use a
vacation mailer program, otherwise automatic messages may be sent from your
address to the list.
On your return, you can RESUME mail by sending a message to
[log in to unmask] with the command
resume mail all
stop
Remember that you can use the web archives to catch up on any messages you may
have missed, or you can retrieve old email archives by email.
More information on the suspend and resume commands is available on
the web at:
http://www.mailbase.ac.uk/docs/suspend.html

If the commands don't work

If the SUSPEND or LEAVE command don't work, or you get an error message,
please contact the list owner by sending a message to:
