Dear all,
I have been looking at Caesarius of Heisterbach as a Cistercian
contemporary of Jacques de Vitry, and would be highly interested in any
recent articles on him. I know of McGuire's articles in Analecta
Cisterciana 1979/80, Greven, Hilka, Strange, etc., but would be particularly
grateful for any recent literature which deals with him or the state of
the Cistercian order in
the late 12th-13thc, particularly the fact that Innocent III used them
heavily in preaching missions while ostensibly they were to be a
cloistered order (a conflict going back to Bernard, it seems).
