The interpretation of the sin of Sodom as refusing hospitality to strangers
is standard Jewish Biblical interpretation to this day. For a class on modern
Judaism I researched contemporary Jewish halakhic arguments regarding gay
rights or the lack thereof, and not one halakhic interpretation (from Orthodox
to Reform) ever mentioned the story of Sodom, but rather, the prohibitions in
Leviticus. --Mary Suydam, Kenyon College, Gambier, Ohio
