A part of ist function is shared by St Brendan, whose name has been
connected by the german "brennen" when his relics came to Germany.
Does anyone know the provencal tradition of the "ble de la sainte
Barbe" (santa Barbara's corn") ? seeds (corn or lentils) are put to
germination in a saucer, and are then placed in the crib whith the santons
on Christmas day. I presume it is an echoe of the harvested field of the
flight in Egypt, but has anyone better answers ?
and cheers to the dark haired George !
