As Ed Zimmerman has done, I would like to applaud and
affirm Tom Izbicki's plea for civility. We all are,
truly, in this thing together. Acknowledging, of course,
that strong feelings are part of the interpersonal package.
I also think that rlandes makes a helpful suggestion in
pointing us toward playfulness. If I am not mistaken, I
came across a childlike/childish distinction being made
in _Piers_ B.15 recently. Playfulness might be linked to
childlike, and game-playing to childishness. Humor, as my
wife and I have found, can be very potent in helping to
defuse or diffuse strong feelings.
I like to think that the work we do as scholars is so
important that we can have fun doing it.
Childlike(ly?) (all right, I know my wife of 16 years would
say that I should put "childishly,"), playfully yours,
