CONFERENCE
THE TRANSLATION OF ST BIRGITTA OF SWEDEN'S WORKS INTO THE EUROPEAN VERNACULARS
17-19 JULY 1997
St Birgitta of Sweden founded a monastic order which had daughter-houses in
countries throughout Europe and beyond. This conference will bring together
for the first time scholars representing the different European vernaculars,
to consider the legacy of St Birgitta in a European context. It will
provide a forum for discussing the similarities and differences in the whole
process of translation in the various vernaculars and it will identify
points of cultural contact between the European countries in the later
Middle Ages.
The conference is the first international meeting to be held under the
auspices of the Hull Centre for Medieval Studies. For further information
please contact Dr Bridget Morris, Department of Scandinavian Studies,
University of Hull, Hull HU 6 7RX, UK.
