I believe Jaana Potkonen, from the land of the midnight
sun, asked about work on religion and women in Renaissance
Italy. I cannot think of a better starting point for
research than the collection of essays edited by Lucetta
Scaraffia and Gabriella Zarri, *Donne e fede. Santita' e
vita religiosa in Italia* (Bari, Laterza, 1994). Of
particular interest are the following articles:
Gabriella Zarri, 'Dalla profezia alla disciplina (1450-
1650)', p. 177-226.
Adriano Prosperi, 'Lettere spirituali', p. 227-252.
Elissa B. Weaver, 'Le muse in convento. La scrittura
profana delle monache italiane (1450-1650)', p. 253-276.
Anne Jacobson Schutte, '"Piccole donne", "grandi eroine":
santita' femminile "simulata" e "vera" nell'Italia della
prima eta' moderna', p. 277-302.
Sara F. Matthews Grieco, 'Modelli di santita' femminile
nell'Italia del Rinascimento e della Controriforma', p.
303-232.
There are other very informative articles on the 'medieval'
period, too.
Good luck with your research!
