A compromise? After endless hours of meetings in smoke-free rooms (this
was the Middle Ages, but they probably smelled of something else
anyway)
when no-one could agree on what saint to name the new church after,
someone would eventually say "ok, let's just call the damn thing All
Saints", and everyone else would be so tired that they'd agree.
In fact, it was probably the same for every church that was built .
Hours of wrangling over which saint it was to be dedicated to. If you
look at the names of parish churches all over Europe, there's usually
no obvious logical reason why this one should be St Mary's, and that
one St Luke's.
